THE ART OF ORIGAMI/(PAPER FOLDING)
My own special interest of the moment is, Origami(the art of paper folding; one can create all sorts of shapes, including: functional/decorative objects/or, toys).
I really enjoyed doing Origami from ever since being a pre-teen child...; but, like most children..my interest sort of both 'waxed and waned'...especially, during the later teenage years period; meaning, when I left school...I had pretty much 'stopped' practicing it.
Most adults are not even in the least bit interested in doing Origami, anymore; because they have so many other far more important issues to deal with...namely, how to find work/pay for all the endlessly incoming bills/and, also, buy food/drink for themselves...purely in order to, 'survive'.

STANDARD ORIGAMI SHAPES
At first, I remember learning how to create standard Origami shapes:
- paper hats
- boxes
- toy bangers
- paper planes
- toy boats
- water bomb
- paper crane
- food serviette
- etc.

FAMOUS ORIGAMI BOOKS/AUTHORS...BOS/BRITISH ORIGAMI SOCIETY...DIFFERENT KINDS OF ORIGAMI
At around age 25+ or so...; I brought some book written by a 'famous' Origami author called: Paul Jackson(A Complete Step By Step Guide); and, through, following the diagrams shown inside of this book...I discovered I was able to create even more shapes than is the normal 'basic' standard ones. Next, I went on to buy a book of non-standard boxes by 'famous' Japanese author: Tomoko Fuse(Fabulous Origami Boxes). -Etc.
From there I went on to join the BOS/British Origami Society(I live in the UK); and, they publish a bi-monthly mag.; which teaches different shapes/as well as, explains where the 'latest' group based Origami conventions do occur. (I still haven't attended any Origami convention, yet, though...; but, when one is near my part of the country...then, I'm sure, I will go.) They also have online teaching, as well...; done through Zoom software.
To date, I learned there is 'single sheet' folded objects...; as well as, 'multiple sheet' folded objects...the latter is called: 'modular origami'. There is 'still' Origami shapes/and, shapes that 'move'. There are also many other types of Origami, such as: 'mathematical Origami'/'wet folding'/and, 'computer software' which one can use to create folds/in addition to which there is, 'Origami doodling'/and, even, 'abstract Origami' designs/-etc.

ORIGAMI, AS WELL AS BEING A PURELY 'DECORATIVE' ART...; ALSO, HAS SOME PERFECTLY 'SERIOUS' APPLICATIONS, AS WELL
For anybody out there who happens to think that Origami is just purely a 'fun' pastime mere 'trivial' hobby. It might be well worthwhile, very carefully, noting...that the billion pounds space travel project called: JWST/James Web Space Telescope...; they used Origami to fold up the telescope...; so, that it could be carried 'compactly' inside of the spaceship...; and, then, be expanded outwards much larger...inside of outer space.
So, Origami, does in fact have many 'real world' application/uses, too. I even read somewhere they were thinking of using it to do 'nano-sized' applications inside of the human body...to carry out surgery/-etc.
Indeed,
some 'professional' people choose to make their living out of doing
Origami either part time/full time...by teaching it to others/or,
writing/publishing books of their own Origami designs/-etc. I've even
seen Origami designs being sold on eBay platform.
If somebody asked me, now-a-days, with the commonly available internet...where would be the best place to go and learn Origami; then, I would answer them to go and check out YouTube videos...; you might find some design there you might like...; the ability levels do range from: 'simple/intermediate/complex'.
