-----

ZOLTAN, THE BUILDER - DID SOME WORK/OTHER WORK STILL LEFT UNFINISHED

Zoltan, the builder came...though, he came a day 'late'. He did some work here...such as:

- fixed the 2 leaks inside of the kitchen (replaced copper pipe/with plastic)

- fixed the leak inside of the bathroom basin (went out and brought some parts)

- added some lino mat to the bathroom floor.

- added 2 wooden plasterboard panels to go on top of both the bathroom/toilet doors.

But, it needs also to be noted that...

- the toilet floor has got no lino

- nor has the kitchen got any lino

- there are still many cosmetic things to be done...exposed floor boards/-etc.

(I did tell him I would clear up the rubbish left; so, please, don't worry about it.)

Because I'm a really laid back kind of guy...so, he seems to think he can take it real easy with me...and, basically, come and go as he pleases; but, I already made up my mind to not pay him a single penny more.

(He did bring me 2 signed photograph prints...of, apparently, a female model.)

He left saying, I might see him, again...; but, not too sure when...?

One evening he left me a Facebook message to say he left behind his power tools; which I tend later on handed over to him(he didn't stay...just took the tools and left).

NOTE: He still has 4 metal scaffolding parts having been left inside of the downstairs cellar.

BROUGHT CURRY & RICE FROM ICELAND

I went to West Norwood Iceland where I brought 3 x Curry and Rice dishes. Looks like in just one single night/day...I went and finished it all...?!

Normally, I don't tend to eat 'curry and rice' much; but, what I actually think has been happening is...I've mostly been preparing 'eggs, and, baked beans'; and, this has made me miss not being able to have the usual 'chicken and rice, and/or, potatoes' that both my mum and aunt used to cook, especially, on Sunday's.

So, through not eating hardly any meat, rice/potatoes for weeks, at a time...I've been seriously missing having those dishes.

So, whenever I go shopping at my local Iceland branch in West Norwood, I tend to buy...

CURRY & RICE

1 x Chicken curry and rice - £1.00

1 x Beef curry and rice - £1.00

1 x rice on it's own (egg fried rice/or, Pilau rice) - £1.00

1 x Tin of curry (usually, brought elsewhere, Lidll, in Streatham. - £0.70p.

MEAT PASTRIES

A next time, I will buy meat pastries, instead...

1 x Steak and Kidney pie - £0.60p

1 x Chicken and Mushroom pie - £0.60p

MEAT PATTY

At other times, I will resort to buying meat patties...

1 x beef patty

1 x lamb patty

1 x chicken patty

...from the West Norwood Jamaican high street store (located opposite West Norwood post office) - £1.70 per patty.

Luckily for me, now-a-days...

1> They actually make these foods ready cooked (as I don't know how to cook it myself/just, simply, hot it up inside of the Microwave...taking just under 3 minutes long)

2> The food isn't overly expensive...as when you are buying it from a restaurant...which would, basically, charge you both an arm and a leg.

BREAD/BUTTER/COOKHAM

Another thing I tend to buy at Iceland  is...

- Eggs

- Bread

- Butter

- Cookham

- Cheese

- Tomatoes

...these are things it is easily possible to make sandwiches from.

CHICKEN TAKE AWAY

Another thing I tend to buy is...

2 x Chicken & Fries take away food - £6.xx (minimum charge £4.00/so, I buy 2 boxes charged at £3.00 each).

or...

Chapate and Rice from the local Indian restaurant - £5.00

FISH & CHIPS & SAUSAGE IN BATTER

A next time I will buy from the local chip shop...

1 x Fish & Chips £3.20

1 x Sausage in Batter - £1.20

CHOCLATE/SALT BISCUITS

I've been trying hard to cut down on my intake of...

> Chocolates

> Salt biscuits

> Ice Cream

...I wouldn't exactly say it's been easy to do that; but, because I had very 'limited' funds available to spend; therefore, I decided instead of buying nonsense foods; might as well leave the salt/sugar stuff out...and, just buy meat, instead.

CONCLUSION

If both my mum and aunt are looking down at me, right now...they will say to themselves, at least, he is managing...even, though, he's all on his own.

My cousin, Sharon, did invite me over there for dinner during this weekend; but, I'm not sure I will go...the problem is Choronavirus is spreading...and, I don't wish to be the one accused of giving it to their whole entire household; even, though, I'm pretty sure I haven't got the virus myself, yet; however, sometimes, people have it and just don't know.

What I do know is, I used to have the virus, before...though, mildly, didn't have to go into hospital; and, I also know that, occasionally, I can still feel throat symptoms having been left behind...; which makes me think did I go and re-contract it, again...?

Another problem I'm having is, I'm totally flat broke; so, this is another reason why I didn't go over to see Sharon and her children. (I just felt far too deeply embarrassed to say that to her.)

-----

YEATMAN'S, THE GRAVE HEAD STONE/(STILL REMAINS UNPAID FOR)

I recall going along to visit seeing Yeatman's Funeral Services in West Norwood...to inquire about installing a commorative grave head stone to mark the spot of both my mum and aunt graves in West Norwood.

The lady, Emma, I think, her name is...said, Zoe, would give me a phone call.

Zoe, gave me a phone call a few days, later; said she will mail me the details...as their offices are now shut...due to Choronavirus.

(I'm not altogether sure that they have the right address details...; because, I'm sure, they said they had sent me such mailing before; maybe, I will have to phone them to 'update' my address details.)

ART

NEW MASTERS ACADEMY ONLINE 3 MONTHS DISCOUNTED SUBSCRIPTION

Most unfortunately, I've not been taking full advantage of my New Masters Academy online subscription for £23.xx monthly last only for 3 months. I took it out somewhere around the 15th of the month...; and, for the first fortnight...I did hardly anything there at all. Instead, I went off to use the normal YouTube...to watch the FREE videos. If this same situation continues for too much longer...;
then, I will feel forced to 'cancel' that subscription because I'm not using it.../or, just not using it enough.

DOMESIKA.ORG SUBSCRIPTION

Unfortunately, I haven't been back to do the online course I went and paid for to do at Domestica.org...related to learning all about beginner's 'figure drawing'. Quite honestly, mainly because the course is spoken in Spanish...with English subtitles one must read...I haven't been back there in any hurry, neither.

As for the yearly subscription I brought to Domistika Pro; well, that seems to have been another total waste!

WORKING ON...CLEARING OUT THE 'OLD' ART...TO MAKE WAY FOR THE 'NEW'

I'm trying to clear up my Facebook drawings; take down the old/and, put up the new. I'm actually meant to download, categorise stuff...but, that takes far too long...so, I will usually just end up deleting stuff, instead.

As well as, Facebook...there are many other places where I've stored art...that also needs plenty of clearing up: RedBubble/Image Kind/Fine Art American/-etc.

-----

PROGRAMMING

PIRPLE SUBSCRIPTION

Just as I did previously imagine...I started off using Pirple web site, regularly; and, submitting regular online assignments; however, then, I went and visited there less and less...until, now, when I haven't been back over there in ages. However, the good thing is...that subscription has already been fully paid off.

I haven't been doing too much programming of late...; though, I do certainly remain very deeply interested in learning more...it's all just a matter of when I can find time enough to go and study...; and, more importantly, remain fully concentrated. Mostly, I tend to start stuff...; and, just not finish...before moving on to go study something else, instead.

EDUONIX.TV LIFETIME SUBSCRIPTION

https://www.eduonix.tv

I recall the last time I went to visit Eduonix.tv...site...and, basically, they said the site had 'vanished'; I really need to do something about that...the sooner the better...so that I can either reclaim funds/or else, they give me a new password to go join where the new site is.

AMAZON FIRE TV STICK/CONNECTION PROBLEMS

Recently, I went and brought myself an Amazon Fire TV Stick; and, it worked...for, at least, one day...; then, I started having all sorts of different problems...such as having to keep on getting up, repeatedly, to re-set the network connection...through the extended WiFi booster box.

The other thing I keep on noticing is...that even when the WiFi does connect...; then, other things 'stop' working such as the iPad internet connection is, now, gone...(this is in spite of the fact that the TV works/and, I have access to YouTube/BBC iPlayer on the TV)?!

TROUBLE WITH GLASSES(CAN'T FIND THEM?)/EYE SIGHT(CAN'T SEE TV CLEARLY FROM FAR AWAY)

I also need to either buy myself a 'new' pair of glasses...; or, find the ones that have gone missing...because I'm finding it really hard to either read/see things clearly on the TV...; instead, I have to constantly 'strain' my eyes...this is not a good thing...and, I fear it might lead to my having much worser eye sight. (I also need to check out when my next FREE NHS eye prescription becomes due...maybe, not until when next year comes.)

Fri 231020 Went Brixton Pound shop/Halfords

2 PM AWOKE TO SEE ZOLTAN 'THE BUILDER' HAVE LEFT ME A FACEBOOK MESSENGER MESSAGE

When I awoke, I saw that Zoltan 'the builder' had left me a Facebook messenger app message. I replied back to say, sorry, I was sleeping; also, left him my phone number.

3 PM WENT BRIXTON

I had an important journey to make in Brixton; but, when I arrived the shop was closed.

3:10 PM WENT BRIXTON POUND SHOP

I went inside of Brixton 'pound' shop...where I went and brought some...

- cat food (4 x tins/2 different flavours: tuna/chicken. 1 pack of tuna)

- 5 pairs of black socks

- 1 bag of sugar

- 1 plastic carrier bag

4 PM WENT BRIXTON HALFORDS BIKE SHOP

I visited Brixton Halfords bike shop to make 2 enquiries...

1> How long does my bike warranty last (labour NOT parts)? Answer: Until May 2022.

2> Will they look at my bike to see what needs fixing? Answer: You need to book online.

4:30 PM DID SOME SHOPPING IN TULSE HILL

In Tulse Hill, I went and brought some shopping...bananas(£1.00)/plantain(£1.20).

5 PM PHONED COUSIN SHARON

I phone my cousin, Sharon, to update her about the latest news that Zoltan 'the builder' said he would be coming to the house tomorrow afternoon.

Wednesday, 21 October 2020

Wed 211020 Brought Amazon Fire TV Stick(3rd generation): £39.99

BROUGHT AMAZON FIRE TV STICK(3rd generation): £39.99

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07ZZW3KJY/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

For a long time, because my YouTube wasn't working, anymore...due to really poor WiFi connection; it's been over a year, at least, since I haven't watched YouTube inside of the bedroom(the app stopped working/and, then, wouldn't let me update?!); so, I decided to go remedy this situation by buying an Amazon Fire TV Stick.

I had already gone and saved £25.00 with Amazon...so, was able to use that pre-saved amount...and, just add £14.99 total to it...in order to make up the full sum of £39.99.

I must say I am very deeply impressed...

> Ordered through: Amazon.co.uk online...search to find: 'Amazon Fire HD Stick'/then, click 'buy'/pay online using debit card. Delivery was fairly quick...2 days/'tracked' delivery...so you can 'sign in' to Amazon, from your computer, to see just how far the delivery van is away from your own road/door. I very eagerly kept track of exactly where the parcel delivery, currently, is...; then, rather hastily, I opened the door to receive the parcel as soon as it came,.,without any delivery person needing to go 'knock' on my own front door/(you can also leave instructions telling them where to place the parcel if you're not in).

> Setting up the stick was really straight forwards and simple -(you don't need to read through any manual to set it up...I didn't/though, there is a short 'picture based' set up manual)-.

The box contains 5 separate parts:

1> Plug

2> USB leads

3> Stick

4> HDMI Extender leads

5> Remote control (together with 2 spare batteries/both of which you need to insert yourself)

One part of the USB leads attaches to the plug/while the other side of the USB leads attaches to the stick itself

The stick now has 1 port still left empty...to which you attach the HDMI Extender leads.

So, you now have 3 things all attached together: Plug/USB leads/HDMI Extender leads

Simply, place the plug into the mains; and, plug the HDMI Extender leads end into one of your TV's empty HDMI ports.

Now, to check everything is working ok; first , insert the 2 spare triple AAA batteries into the remote. Turn on your TV...and, choose Amazon Fire Stick as being the current 'source'. Point the Fire remote towards the TV...; and, from the menu, select your chosen communication language, I choose: English. After that the system seemed to do the rest on it's own...connecting to WiFi seemed to be 'automatic' (I don't remember being 'forced' to type in any WiFi password)-...there was a long wait...as it said, 'updating/downloading software'; then, when that was all over with(perhaps, 10-20 minutes)...you use the remote to select options, 'next', repeatedly...until you've gone and reached the end of the menu items needing to be clicked on in order to complete set up. Things such as choose which 'channels' you wish to use...; I didn't choose the 'kids' channel...but, choose all of the other channels...somewhere around 20...including:

- BBC iPlayer

- YouTube

- Sky News

- Audible

- Amazon Photos(unlimited)/(Being able to see all your photos/and, then, being able to classify these into separately named albums: 'family'/'friends'/'pets'/-etc.; as well as, watch videos you took/then, automatically, uploaded from your phone/tablet...for watching on your big screen home TV is really pretty cool.)

- etc.

> The quality of the TV picture is really crystal clear (an electrical engineer once told me...either 'digital' TV works, and, you get 'perfect' picture/or else, it don't...and, then, you get absolutely nothing?!)

> Use the remote to select from the list of channels...a particular channel to go watch...and, then, with another click you find your self watching that channel.

The remote has a 'back button'...that allows you to return back to seeing the main menu...so, you can choose a different channel to go watch.

There is also an 'up' button on the remote...which, also, seems to take you back to the main menu.

> Too, there is a voice button on the remote; click it...and, say, "Alexa, go to YouTube, and, show me 'subject'...and, a list of YouTube videos appears which is related to your chosen subject matter...simply, scroll through to select which particular video you wish to watch...click it, and, then, that video plays.

The remote has: 'Backwards/Pause/Forwards' buttons...so, at anytime you can either choose to 'pause' what you are currently watching...then, resume from where you left off whenever you return/or, alternatively, choose to scrub through the video...either going backwards/or, forwards...until you've reached the point you wish to continue watching from.

The remote also has buttons to both lower(-)/raise(+) the volume sound.

CONCLUSION

I really can't believe I didn't buy this device far sooner rather than later; after all, it's fairly 'cheap'. Plus, it's great fun to use...either doing 'manual' selections through using the remote/or, else, searching using 'voice'.

The amount of stuff I get to select from to watch, now, is huge. (Meaning, totally forget watching normal TV/Free TV channels; though, all of those same options do still remain available for me to use...with your TV remote control select the normal TV as 'source'/instead of Amazon Fire HD TV as 'source'...it's easy to switch going from one to the other as being 'source'.)

OTHER ADVANTAGES

NOTE(1): They say it's possible to set up your Alexa device -(if you already own one)- to couple with the Fire HD stick; then, you could use the Alexa device to speak to the Fire Amazon Stick(still haven't tried doing this, yet, though)...and, select what you want to watch on TV that way, instead, using only 'voice'.

NOTE(2): I'm also an 'Amazon Prime' customer...so, I get to see many FREE Prime videos, as well.

NOTE(3): There are films you can 'buy'...; but, so far to date, I haven't been tempted to do any of that, yet; I hope I never will(as costs tend to mount, endlessly, going up and up...)?! FREE works perfectly fine with me; or, at least, at the moment.

POSSIBLE DISADVANTAGES

a> 2 x remotes: I still need to use 2 separate 'remote control' devices...one to use with the main TV/and, another smaller remote to control the Amazon Fire Stick. (Both of these devices can easily get lost, somewhere?! Maybe, it might be worth buying a 'spare' remote...in case, you can't find where one went.)

b> Which model to choose? This type of Fire HD Stick was the 'cheapest' option costing: £39.99. There was another one costing just £10.00 more...at £49.99; which offered 4K TV. (But, as I really wasn't too sure if my own TV is 4K or not...; therefore, I decided to go for the 'cheaper' option...thus, saving me £10.00.

There is also a Fire TV Box...which costs a whopping £110.00; I believe that is, currently, the most expensive option; but, as I'm fairly broke...and, wasn't too sure if this type of technology was going to work inside my own home/or, not...so, I decided to go for the 'cheapest' option, first.

c>  Sale time: Every year, Amazon, puts on a 'half-price sale'. So, I don't think I choose the best time of the year to go and buy this device...; as I had to pay 'full price'. I just didn't want to 'wait' for the sale...as I wanted to watch TV/YouTube/Amazon Prime/-etc., right NOW!

Thu 151020 Joined: New Masters Academy/(Premium subs/: 3 months @ $29.00 monthly)

JOINED: NEW MASTERS ACADEMY/(SPECIAL OFFER PRICE: $29.00 MONTHLY/FOR 3 MONTHS)

https://www.newmastersacademy.com

Today, I went and joined: New Masters Academy.com; the usual price for Premium membership is: $49.00 monthly; but, I saw a special offer for: $29.00/(£23.43 GBP) per month; and, so, I decided to try that...; if I don't like it very much; then, I can always cancel the subscription by going to their web site...signing in...and, clicking on 'Cancel' subscription.

NOTE: The reduced price of, $29.00, is for the first 3 months, only; after which the price will revert back to the full price of $49.00.

ROTATEABLE 3D MODELS

So far, and, I only joined minutes ago...the time is, now, 16:54 PM...I clicked on one of their 3D rotatable skull models. Very interesting...there are many other models you can choose from, as well; which you are also able to rotate on screen using your mouse.

DIFFERENT TEACHERS, INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO SERIES

I'm also watching a video...where a Russian teacher, Ilya Mirochnik, is showing the basics of 'figure drawing'...dividing things into blocks...using a 'male model'.

At the same time, I've opened a next browser window which allows me to view a different course video...this time, Joseph Todorovitch, 'Portrait Painting for Beginners'.

Right now, I'm watching a Steve Huston 'beginning head drawing' series of videos; (I first saw the preview of on YouTube, actually).

Too, there are many other options available to use...; but, right now, I'm still 'new' to using the site entirely...still finding out what's there...; and, also, how to go about using/manipulating it.

CONCLUSION

I figured that New Masters Academy would have both a professionally designed/developed web site...; and, that the teachers would be the best. So far, although I haven't actually completed doing any courses there, yet; I feel much impressed by what's on offer.

In relation to my having joined Domestika, yesterday...which teaches multiple different things; this site covers only 'art' instructionals, alone.

Honestly, I feel very comfortable, indeed, being in the company of other 'artists'; the mentality of being in that 'art-based' environment does make me feel very much at home.

If I could afford it...I would quite happily take out a yearly subscription to, NMA, costing: $420(standard)/$528 (premium).

Wed 141020 Joined Spanish MOOC: Domestika.com/Domestika Pro/Figure Drawing for Beginners

JOINED: DOMESTICA.COM

https://www.domestika.com

Wednesday 14th Oct 2020

Joined Domestika.com...which is a Spanish language based MOOC/Massive Online Open Courses type of web portal...offering to viewers all sorts of different course videos.

I brought 2 separate subscriptions...

1 x yearly subscription to Domestika Pro costing $38.69/(£29.90 GBP); which entitles me to a 20% discount off all courses brought.

1 x lifetime subscription course, 'Figure Drawing for Beginners': $9.04/(£7.27 GBP)

One very odd thing about this type of course is it's actually being spoken in Spanish; with English subtitles you can read...?! So, I'm not entirely sure this was a very suitable choice for me. Maybe, I won't bother buying any more courses there...; but, wanted just to give it a 'try'.

14 DAYS TO CANCEL DOMESTIKA PRO

Anyway, they say you have 14 days to cancel the Domestika Pro subscription cost; so, I still have plenty of time left to decide.

CONCLUSION

I've been somewhat slow to cancel my Domistika Pro subscription; because...

A> I already went and brought the Figure Drawing course at a reduced fee because I was a Domistika Pro member/(20% off); will they choose to put the price back up, again, for that course I already went and brought...taking further money out of my bank a/c.?

B> There may be many Domestika videos I am interested in; and, might wish to buy, in future; so that might mean having to go rebuy the Domestika Pro yearly subscription all over again(so, what's the point in cancelling it in the first place when I've already gone an brought it).

Mon 121020 FREE Food box came/delivery around 5 PM

5 PM TIMEBANK/FREE FOOD BOX DELIVERY CAME

Today, Monday, a lady came to deliver FREE food. -(I was introduced to their service through a PGTB/Paxton Green Time Bank member...french art teacher: Fabienne.)-

At around 5 PM -(they, usually, deliver a food box somewhere between: 3PM-5PM on Monday's)- I heard the door knock; and, when I opened it the lady was there with the food box. I thanked her; and, wished her a nice week ahead.

Took the food box in...; then, went and unpacked it...storing certain items inside of the kitchen...such as soup/biscuits; other items inside of the living room fridge: yogart/-etc.; cake inside of the living room cabinet; and, so on; when done unpacking I stored the empty food box down stairs.

Sun 111020 Uploaded self-portrait drawing to Facebook group

UPLOADED SELF-PORTRAIT DRAWING TO FACEBOOK GROUP, CALLED: SELF-PORTRAIT SUNDAYS

I'd joined the Facebook group: Self-portrait Sundays; but, hadn't been posting any self-portraits for a while.

Anyway, sometime during the evening...around 3 PM, maybe...I decided to draw on 'chips paper'/using a 'graphite stick pencil' my own self-portrait...drawn in front of the long bedroom mirror; and, then, later on, went and uploaded it.

I was rather pleasantly surprised to find that there were many favourable comments; because, the truth is, at first, I was thinking rather than keep the drawing I might just dump it somewhere...such as inside of a black plastic wallet A4 sized folder...where I keep self-portraits that I don't tend to look at anymore.

I received over 50+ favourable comments.

The sad part is, the drawing really isn't that good; or, at least, not by my own standards it isn't anyway; I don't believe I drew any part of it either effectively/or, right.

Wed 071020 Sent in Pirple course Frontend-Fundamentals assignment/Result: Pass

Sent in my second Pirple course: Frontend-Fundamentals assignment. Result: Passed.

Once, again, the test was really very easy...in fact, far too easy...

- write an ordered list

- write an unordered list

- show you know how to write HTML comments.

...stuff than any total complete 'beginner' could pick up in less than a single day.

Frankly, I'm none too pleased with receiving these so called 'tutor marked' assignments; because, quite clearly, it's apparent that the send outs are just totally 'automated'...meaning, all of the wording is exactly the same -as was on the last assignment pass-; the only thing I can actually see that's changed is the 'course name'...and, that leaves me feeling somewhat very deeply disheartened.

What I was actually expecting to see is something a lot more, precisely, tailored to each 'individual' student. Such as...

"Dear Paul, I'm Mark your online tutor, thanks very much for having completed doing the assignment test; and, I can see you have done way above the average of what was asked. Very well done, indeed! Please, continue to keep it up your very hard work... ;-)"

So, honestly, I'm feeling a little bit 'ripped off', at the moment; because, I'm so very deeply 'aware' that there are many people on the internet who get involved in the business of 're-selling' courses...just in order to make hefty 'profits' for themselves. These types of teachers...are really not interested in their students efforts/results at all...so long as they are getting paid. Thus, if it's possible to make the 'sign up/test marking/sending out certificates' processes...all entirely 'automated'; then, for them that's making really 'quick and easy money', and, with no problems; basically, it's a case of 'grab all of the money; and, then, run...!'

On the other hand, the courses seem to have been created by people who do know exactly what they are doing in 'programming' terms...; so, I'm not saying the people who created the video courses were not themselves 'experts'. Though the video 'quality'...teaching delivery standards isn't necessarily high...instead, it tends to vary quite widely...judging from all that I've gone and seen so far.

But, like I've already stated up above...; 're-selling' courses on the internet...is quite a high art, now-a-days; meaning there are actually places that teach people how to go about 're-selling' stuff on the internet; and, so, you don't need to be an 'expert'...in order to re-sell courses that somebody else went and created.

Anyway, for now, at least, I've decided to still persist with getting on and doing the rest of the course...; which, after all, I've already gone and 'paid' for.

One other reservation I have is...who the hell is, Pirple? Never ever even heard of them myself, before...not until a couple days back...when I first witnessed seeing their online advert. What I'm trying to say is, if I were to end up getting an online certificate from them...as they are not a very widely recognised 'official' body...such as: City & Guilds/-etc.; therefore, would that Pirple qualification paper/automated printout...actually mean anything to a potential employer...? Honestly, I don't think so!
